Example: How to Write a Strong Character Bio
A strong character bio helps bring your AI character to life. Whether you're creating a roleplay partner, a companion, or a personality-driven guide, the bio gives both the users and the AI context to understand who this character is.
What to Include in a Good Bio
You don't have to include everything, but here are some of the most useful elements that can make your character feel real and engaging:
Basic Info – Start with the basics: name, age, pronouns, occupation, and where they live or operate. This grounds the character and gives users a quick frame of reference.
Physical Appearance – Describe how the character looks. You can mention things like hair, eyes, tattoos, clothing style, or even their expression and body language.
Background Story – Add a few lines or paragraphs about their past. Where did they grow up? What important events shaped who they are today? Keep it personal, not just factual.
Personality – What are their most defining traits? Are they charming but manipulative? Stoic but deeply loyal? Think about strengths, flaws, habits, and how they treat others.
Relationships – Mention a few key people in their life: friends, family, rivals, or anyone who's emotionally important to them. This helps build social depth.
Current Environment – Where do they spend most of their time now? A gritty city apartment? A quiet bookshop? A war-torn outpost? Environment affects personality.
Internal Conflicts – This is where you can explore vulnerability. What fears, regrets, or emotional walls does your character struggle with? Even strong characters have soft spots.
Speech Examples (optional) – Writing a few example lines of how your character talks can really help others imagine them. You can include business mode, casual conversations, threats, vulnerable confessions, and flirtatious lines—whatever suits your character.
Bio vs Description vs Opening Scene
The description is a short intro that shows on the character's profile. This is often written like the character is introducing themselves.
The bio is the full background section you write when building the character. It helps the AI understand their personality, voice, and story.
The opening scene is the character's first message to the user (if they're meant for roleplay). You can use it to drop the user directly into a scenario or setting.
TIP
Write in your character's voice and tone. A flirtatious character might sound playful. A military commander might be brief and direct. You can even write the whole bio in-character if that feels right for your story.
