Can I Use AICHIKI in My Language?
Yes! AICHIKI supports multiple languages so you can chat, create characters, and build identities in the language you're most comfortable with.
🌐 How Language Selection Works
Setting Your Preferred Language
- Go to Settings from the sidebar
- Under Chat Settings, find the Language dropdown
- Choose your preferred language from the list
- This language will be pre-selected for all new chats
Language Selection During New Chats
When starting a new chat, you'll see a popup asking you to select:
- Identity (which persona to use)
- Language (which language for this conversation)
Smart Defaults: If you've set a preferred language in Settings, it will be pre-selected. If you've also set a default identity, the popup won't appear at all—the chat starts immediately in your chosen language!
Character Greetings in Your Language
When you select a language, the character will:
- Greet you in that language from the very first message
- Continue the entire conversation in your chosen language
- Adapt their personality and tone to match natural speech patterns in that language
Translation System: All characters can communicate in any supported language through AICHIKI's translation system. The character's original creation language doesn't matter—responses are automatically adapted to your selected language while preserving their unique personality.
Translation Quality Disclaimer
Important Notice: The translation system is not perfect and greatly depends on what AI models are available to us at accessible pricing. Translation quality can vary significantly depending on:
- Which language combinations are better understood by our translation AI
- The time when characters were created and what models were available then
- Some AI models knowing certain languages better than others
We offer no guarantee on translation quality - this is a best-effort feature provided in hopes of making AICHIKI more accessible to users worldwide. The translation quality is largely out of our control, and translations are not reviewed by human language experts.
As a tiny team of just 1 developer and 1 content creator/moderator, we simply don't have the resources or funding to provide professional translation services.
For the best experience, we recommend using English, which is officially supported. If translations don't meet your expectations, please switch to English for more reliable results.
Languages Supported in Chat:
Most characters—and AICHIKI herself—can understand and reply in several languages, including:
- English
- Spanish
- French
- German
- Portuguese
- Italian
- Romanian
- Dutch
- Japanese
- Korean
- Chinese (Simplified)
Note
The language feature is still being improved, so responses may not always be perfect. We're actively working on making multilingual conversations smoother and more natural.
Creating Characters in Other Languages:
You can write your character's bio, traits, and sample dialogues in your preferred language. The character will respond based on how they're written, so using consistent language helps maintain personality and tone.
AICHIKI (the assistant):
AICHIKI can also chat in multiple languages. While her responses might still be stronger in English, we're enhancing her abilities to understand and reply more naturally in other languages too.
What if the AI replies in the wrong language?
If a message comes back in the wrong language or doesn't sound quite right, you can easily regenerate it:
On Mobile:
- Tap the message and then tap the three dots in the upper-right corner.
- From the pop-up menu, select "Regenerate."
- The message will be rewritten (usually within a few seconds) in your current language.
- You can repeat this a few times if needed.
- You can also press and hold the message to bring up the same menu.
On Desktop:
- Hover over the message, click the three dots that appear, and select "Regenerate."
