Can't Chat with My Own Private Character

"Character is Private" Error for Your Own Character

If you see a "character is private" error when trying to chat with a character you created yourself, this is a known bug that can happen from time to time. Your account has access to the character, but the app can temporarily lose track of your permissions.

What to Check

  1. Make sure you're logged into the same account that created the character. Characters are only accessible from the account that made them.
  2. Check that the character still exists in your My Characters list. Tap Search or Explore on the home screen and use the My Characters filter, or open Profile from the sidebar to see all your characters.
  3. Log out and log back in, then try opening the character again. Your characters and chats stay saved to your account.

Still Need Help?

If you're on the right account and the character is in your list but the error continues, contact our support team so we can fix it on our end. When contacting support, please mention:

  • The character name (if you're comfortable sharing it)
  • Whether the character appears in your My Characters list

Why This Happens

This is a synchronization issue between the app and the server. Your account has proper access to the character, but the permission check on the app side can fall out of step with the server. Our support team can correct this for you.
