Branching
Branching lets you try a different reply in a chat without losing what you already have. You pick one of your own messages, write a different message in its place, and the story continues from there on a second path. The original path stays as it was. When both paths are played out, you keep the one you want and the other is removed.
Branching is available on every plan, on mobile and on web.
Where the option appears
"Branch from here" is shown on your own messages only, never on the character's. It is not on every message of yours. Only one message in the chat has it at any time, and it is always the same one: your third message counting from the bottom up.
To find it, start at the bottom of the chat and count only your own messages, skipping the character's replies:
- Your last message. No Branch option.
- The message you sent before that. No Branch option.
- The message before that one. This is the one with Branch from here.
Anything older than that does not have the option either. Every time you send a new message, the option moves down one message with it, so it is always on your third from the bottom.
A chat needs at least three of your messages before the option exists.
How to start a branch
- Find your third message counting from the bottom up (see above).
- Long-press the message, or tap the three dots on the message bubble.
- Tap Branch from here. The menu also contains Copy, Bookmark Message, Drop everything from here and Clone up to here. Branching is not the same as cloning: it does not make a copy of the chat.

The chat now shows a "Paths split here" line under the character's last message before your chosen one. Everything above that line is shared by both paths. A Branch tag appears at the top of the chat while a branch is open.
The two paths
A switch at the bottom of the chat shows two tabs: Original and New path. Each tab shows a count out of 3.
- Original is the chat as you wrote it. It starts at 3/3 because the three messages you already sent after the split point are on it.
- New path starts empty at 0/3. The chat shows "This is your new path. Write a different message to see where it goes."

- With New path selected, write a different message than the one you sent before.
- Continue the story for up to three messages. The count goes up with each message you send.
- Tap Original at any time to read the first version again. The message bar shows "This path is full — switch paths" because the original path already has its three messages.
Only sending messages works inside a branch. Editing, regenerating and hints are not available until you have kept a path.

Keeping a path
Once both paths show 3/3, the chat shows "Both paths are full — keep one to continue" and a button under the switch. The button follows the tab you have selected:
- On the Original tab it reads KEEP ORIGINAL.
- On the New path tab it reads KEEP NEW PATH.
- Switch to the path you want to continue with.
- Read it once more.
- Tap the keep button.

If you keep the original, the chat continues as if the branch never existed. If you keep the new path, the chat continues from the split point along your new messages, and the original messages after the split point are gone.
You cannot keep a path before both are full.
Cancelling a branch
Tap the X next to the Original / New path switch. The new path is deleted and the chat returns to the original as it was before you branched.
Note
The path you do not keep is deleted permanently. There is no way to get it back after you press the keep button. If there is a message you want to save from the path you are giving up, copy it before you choose.
